Big Idea: “T-Shirt Design for Student-Run Newspaper”
Client: Eastern Echo Newspaper
Date: 2017
Location: Ypsilanti, Michigan
Fig 2 created a front and back t-shirt design for the Eastern Michigan University’s college newspaper, “The Eastern Echo.” The goal was to produce merchandise they could hand out to get people interested in joining staff. We created this design for a shirt that included an inkwell and quill symbol. It was a throwback to the Echo’s foundation paired with a fresh illustration that brought it to the “now.”
The eagle character was chosen because of EMU’s mascot. The shirts were screen printed, so they were all one color for cheaper production on green shirts, which was EMU’s school color. The vector symbols on the back represented the different assets all staff members brought to “The Eastern Echo.”
